Fitness Tests of Germanys SEK Elite Police Force

Spezialeinsatzkommandos are specialized units present in most federal states in Germany. Unlike GSG9, the elite police force of Germany, S.E.K. primarily focuses on domestic crimes, specializing in combating terrorism, handling hostage rescue situations, and executing raids. Comparable to the various S.W.A.T. Teams in the U.S., S.E.K. plays a crucial role in maintaining national security.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • To be eligible, candidates must already be active police officers with several years of relevant work experience.
  • The age cutoff varies between 32 and 36, depending on the federal state. Officers generally cannot remain in the unit beyond the age of 45, often transitioning to other units or retiring.
  • SEK Police Officers are known for their exceptional physical fitness, often likened to Olympic athletes according to a documentary.

Selection Phase - Basislehrgang S.E.K:

  • Only a few candidates pass the rigorous selection phase, enduring intense training in various disciplines.
  • The six-month Basislehrgang phase includes calisthenics, martial arts, tactical training, shooting training, law studies, rope climbing, and interviews.
  • Candidates must endure two Belastungswochen, covering a 56 KM night march and shooting tests.
  • "Treppenlaufen," walking up and down four flights of stairs for two hours, is a challenging daily exercise.
